Do I really need a domain name for my Blog?

Why do I need a domain for my blog, when blogger and Wordpress offer free options?

I am ALL about saving money, so this was my question.

I am pretty new to all of this blogging stuff. I have a friend that has been doing this for a few years and she has motivated me greatly! :-) I am also part of a blogging Facebook group with really supportive ladies that have answered my silly newbie questions with patience and grace.

Through those ladies, and researching online, I am figuring out what SEO is, what the blogger etiquette is, and why it is so important to have a domain that is .com or .net instead of

So let me tell you what I have found! It is all about recognition. The search engines recognize and find you more easily, the people wanting to read your blog find you more easily, and it builds you up as reliable source. You can read more about it and some tips for picking a great domain name here.

So after doing my research and realizing a domain is really important, my next quest was to find a domain hosting company. There are so many out there, and I had no idea where to start.

So I opened a tab with all the different companies I was interested in comparing. I compared price, reputation, and user friendliness.

I wish I could say that I picked the one that looked the best in all of the things I was looking for in a web hosting company. wonderful frugal to a fault personality kicked in and I went with the cheapest. Big. Mistake.

I won't say which company it was. I am not in the habit of bad mouthing people, or companies. Instead I will tell you briefly my bad experience and move on the the company that rocks!

So I bought a domain with the first company for only 99 cents for the whole year. I thought I was getting a deal. Then the time came to apply it to my blog, and try as I might I couldn't get it to work. Then I thought that maybe it was just me, after all I am new to this stuff. Although I have learned a html coding and what a favicon is (hint: it's that little pink flower I designed and put next to the address )

To my great frustration I could NOT figure this domain thing out. So I had my husband try. He had the same problems I had. So I went on one of my Facebook blogger groups and asked for help. A woman said she had the same trouble with the same company, and she has done this whole adding domains to blog thing.

Then I asked my dad. The computer genius. This is his job. He is a systems administrator and his office is probably bigger them my house...ok maybe not bigger, but he knows his stuff. I didn't want to bug him about my little blog project because he is so busy, but he gladly tried to help.

He did a neat thing where he could control my computer from his house miles away, and still no dice.

Then I decided that I didn't want to waste any more of my precious life on this silly domain hosting site that was NOT working.

I cancelled and went back to the one I knew I should have. That site is...

Your Website Works while you play! Start with a $1.99 .Com Domain from GoDaddy! Your Website Works While You Play! Save 28% off new products from GoDaddy!

Go daddy!! If you click that link it will take you right there!

So learn from my mistake and save your time. It wasn't much more expensive. Although I did add on the $8 security measures so our private personal information isn't out there for the world.

It was SO easy to install on my blog! at the risk of sounding like a four year old, I did it all by myself!! It honestly tool about five minutes.

So we are no longer but now !
